General Drinking Filters

How safe is tap water to use a filter?

All drinking filters are suitable to use with municipal water (tap water).

The water in Bangkok municipality is safe as the treatment facilities from which the water comes from follows the World Health Organization benchmark guidance for its quality and is carefully monitored. Water quality standards of MWA follow the Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality of WHO (WHO, 2006).

Water quality standard of Nampapa Lao.  “The standard of water produced by the factory is guaranteed and valid according to the authorization of the Department of Food and Drug and Mineral Industries according to WHO standards. In addition, our research laboratories have been monitored and reviewed in four main urban centers such as Mao Water Plumbing Plant, Water Treatment Plant, Cao Bang Khai Water Treatment Plant, Dong Kong Waterworks Factory, which is 98 points according to the Safe Water Plan.”

Can we get rid of microplastics?

There is no Microplastics free certification available to date.

Municipal water treatment plants cannot remove all microplastics entirely. Most are 2.5 microns in size.

The good news is that Claryum® two carbon blocks cartridges can extrude particles down to 0.5 microns. This method is known as mechanical filtration and we use it specifically to remove suspended particles. Because our system is equipped with sub-micron technology, you can feel comfortable that we are reducing microplastics significantly.

Which drinking filter is good for me?

AQ 4000 Counter Top Filter has been the most compatible drinking water filtration system with the widest range of customers profile so far. The one and only requirement is to have a good water pressure from the faucet on which you want to install the filter.

AQ 5300 – 3 Stage is an under the counter system. To install this filter, you need a sink with a pre-drilled hole or one that has an existing sprayer or soap dispenser that you could use instead to fit your filtered water faucet on. This option will not damage or permanently modify your plumbing. When you move out, you can easily remove the system and reconnect your plumbing back to normal.

AQ Clean Water Machine Dispenser can suit the widest range of customer profile. Its only requirement is that it is activated by power. This would the best candidate for instantaneous great tasting water where your water pressure is too poor to use the AQ 4000 Counter Top Filter properly or if you can’t make any adjustment in your sink to fix the AQ 5300-3 stage

Is the water filtered “purified water”?

No, and actually, purified water is not as healthy as filtered water. Purified water undergoes reverse osmosis or distillation, which strip everything out of your water – not only the contaminants but also the healthy, natural minerals. The filters we propose all use selective filtration designed to reduce contaminants from the water and leave in the natural healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

How do i recycle the replacement filters?

Aquasana USA can recycle the filters for you, but we do not cover the shipping cost to return the filters back to them. In reality, the environmental impact of shipping the filters back to them outweighs the good of recycling. You can recycle the drinking filters yourself by removing the ends of the filters, recycle the plastic parts (which are appropriately numbered) and put the carbon either in your compost pile or garden (carbon is good for plant life), or just throw it out (since the carbon degrades quickly, and is a positive component in a landfill).

I'm a renter, so i can't drill or modify the plumbing. Which filter system should i get?

AQ 4000 Counter Top Filter and AQ Clean Water Machine Dispenser are perfect for renters because they do not require any special sink with a pre-drilled hole nor do they require any drilling under the counter. These options will not damage or permanently modify your plumbing. If you move out, you can easily bring these two filters with you.

What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

What is BPA? And why are people concerned about it?

BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, a contaminant found in most plastics. BPA can adversely affect your health if consumed at high levels. Aquasana drinking systems do not contain BPA, and our filtration process reduces existing BPA.

Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

Hard water is more of a nuisance than a health risk, and is not necessarily contaminated. Hard water is generally safe to drink, after it has been properly treated.

What is soft water, and is it safe to drink?

Having soft water just means you have a lower concentration of dissolved minerals in the water (primarily calcium and magnesium). Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still contain contaminants.

What is selective filtration, and how do Aquasana systems filter drinking water?

Selective filtration is the process of sub-micron filtration, micron filtration, adsorption and ion exchange, all of which selectively reduces chemicals, heavy particulates and most dangerous heavy metals from the water while maintaining healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Shower Filters

Do i have to pay for a plumber to install the system?

Aquasana shower systems are very easy to install, and you can do it yourself in minutes. No plumber is necessary. Please follow the instructions and look at the installation video.

What is the flow rate of the AQ-4100, AQ-4100NSH, & AQ-4105?

The optimum flow rate for the filter and shower head is 9.5 litres per minute.

Can i use my own shower head or hand-held wand with the AQ-4100?

Yes, you can use your own shower head. The AQ-4100NSH is the correct model for individuals using their own shower head. Just remember the shower head needs to have the same 1/2-inch connection as standard shower heads and the ideal flow rate would be 9.5 litres per minute. If your showerhead processes more than a 9.5 litres flow rate per minute, the quality of filtration may degrade slightly. Increasing the flow rate by changing the shower head reduces contact time with the media and will reduce the filtration quality. If you decrease the flow rate of the system by using a different shower head, or use a shower head with a shut-off switch, you may cause damage to the system and void your warranty.

Can i use the shower system for drinking water?

Drinking some of the water during your shower poses no health risk. However, Aquasana does not recommend that you use the shower system as a primary drinking water source since it is not designed as a drinking system and has only been tested under shower conditions and regulations.

Can i hook the shower system up under a constant pressure application?

No, the shower system is designed to allow the water to consistently pass through the system as it filters. If the system is under constant pressure and unable to release the pressure introduced into the system during filtration, damage can occur to the unit.

How do i know if the Aquasana shower system will fit the shower pipe coming out of my wall?

Most shower connections are 1/2-inch, which means that the Aquasana shower systems will fit the shower pipe in most homes.

How much chlorine does the shower system remove?

Aquasana shower systems are tested to remove 91% chlorine for 38,000 litres.

How do i know how many showers it takes to use 38,000 liters (38 cubic meter)?

38,000 litres at 9.5 litres per minute = 4,000 minutes of showering
– You can take 400 10-minute showers
– You can take 267 15-minute showers
