Living a healthy lifestyle

Can you believe October is already here? Feels like yesterday that we were celebrating the beginning of the year and now we are just a few months away from its end.

This month is special in many ways, but mostly because it’s the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year, thousands of organizations worldwide come together to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis, and they also raise funds for women who are suffering from the disease and who can’t afford treatment.

Some cancer risk factors, such as genetics and environment, are out of our control, but research suggests that about 70% is within our power to change and is related to our lifestyle. That’s right! If you avoid harmful habits such as smoking and excessive drinking alcohol and start living a healthier life you can prevent cancer and any other disease. Here are some tips you can follow to start working towards a healthier lifestyle:

1. Avoid Stressful Situations

We get it! There are tons of situations related to our job, families and stability that can cause us stress.  However, you have to learn how to manage that stress to live a happier and healthy life. Always keep a positive attitude and keep in mind that sometimes there are things you can’t simply control and that’s fine.

2. Stay Active

Like most people, you probably spend a lot of time sitting either at your desk or couch or even in your car driving. Truth is, your body needs to stay active to counteract the negative effects of sitting. There’s no need to pay an expensive gym membership! You can walk home instead of driving; use the stairs instead of the elevator; and, stretch your body whenever you have the chance. No matter what you choose to do, don’t forget to move your body as much as you can!

3. Rest Well

Sleep is vital for your health! According to Medical News Today, getting enough sleep is essential for helping a person maintain optimal health and well-being. Sleeping for at least 7-8 hours a day can help you be more productive, lower your risk of a heart disease, lower your chances of gaining weight, prevent depression, and even boost your immune system. Take a warm bath, wear something comfy and avoid using electronics before going to bed to have a good night of sleep.

4. Eat a Healthy Diet

Of course, food plays an important role in all functions of your body. What you eat – or, don’t eat – highly influences your health. Aim to build a diet around antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats. Avoid eating fried food, refined sugar, unhealthy fats, and mass-produced food such as chocolate bars, ready meals and canned foods as they cause more harm than good to your body. Don’t fall into the temptation. You can replace the junk food with healthy options that are delicious as well!

5. Limit your exposure to harmful chemicals

Harmful chemicals can be anywhere, including in the water you drink daily! In a study done in 2014 by German researchers, nearly 25,000 chemicals were found lurking in a single bottle of water. So, in other words, drinking water from the tap or even from bottles doesn’t necessarily mean that it is healthy and free of chemicals such as chlorine! If you want to ensure the water you drink is healthy, you can start by purchasing a water filter for your home. We offer different types of filters depending on your needs.

  • The over-the-counter, perfect if you move a lot because it doesn’t require installation.
  • The under-the-counter, great for those who don’t like to have a lot of things on the kitchen counter and prefer to hide it.
  • The Clean Water Machine Dispenser, is also a favorite option for people who change abode often.
  • Last but not least, we have reusable bottles that come with a filter inside. A cartridge lasts about 3 months and equals 600 drinking bottles of about ½ liter. You can take them with you wherever you go to stay hydrated at all times!

Now that you’ve read these tips, you can start implementing them in your life to have a happier, healthier lifestyle and prevent diseases. Make sure you share this information with your family and friends to raise awareness about the importance of being active and healthy!
