World Cancer day
February 4th is known around the world for being the World Cancer Day! On this day, thousands of organizations and individuals around the world come together to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection, and treatment of this disease. Funds are collected for research, prevention campaigns, diagnosis, treatment and cure. To contribute to this cause, we would like to give you some commonly agreed tips that will help you prevent this disease and live a happy and healthy life.
When was the last time you went outside for a run or visited the gym to work out? Physical activity is extremely important for your health. An hour workout is only 4% of your day, so there are no excuses to stay at home doing nothing. Be active! Exercise is important to relieve stress, increase energy levels, stay in shape and reduce the risk of different types of cancer. You can practice sports such as football or tennis to stay active, go for a run around the park for about 30 minutes or take a Pilates or yoga class. It depends on what you like to do, but you should exercise at least 30 minutes daily.
Eat a healthy diet
Of course, a healthy diet plays a huge role in your health. A diet that is high in whole food like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and healthy fats may help you prevent cancer. On the other side, a diet based on processed meats, refined carbs, salt, sweets and alcohol may do the opposite. Although there isn’t a specific diet proven to prevent cancer 100% or cure it, you should definitely be mindful of what you eat on a daily basis. Consume only natural foods and make sure to always eat on time!
Quit smoking or never start
If you are a regular smoker, you might want to think twice before lighting another tobacco product or cigarette. Smoking has been linked to different types of cancer including cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, kidney and many others. What’s worse about smoking is that you not only harm your health, but you also affect the health of those who surround you. Avoiding the use of tobacco or quitting definitely reduces your chances of suffering from cancer. The idea of quitting might be hard to entertain when you are hooked on the habit and the first days of quitting can be challenging. In the end though, it is so rewarding!
Drink Filtered Tap Water
Are you used to drink water directly from the tap? You shouldn’t! Public water supplies in some areas are not clean enough, especially in Thailand. Some of them are either polluted by agricultural or industrial operations or full of harmful chemicals, like chlorine. This isn’t good for your health. Even bottled water isn’t always clean. Its safety and source are often unclear… Unless you have a specific reason to buy bottled water, try not to do it frequently. Instead install water filters at home! Water filters are a great alternative because they are super easy to install, they contribute in lowering the use of single use plastic bottles and they also help you save some money.
Our Aquasana filters are vigorously tested and NSF/ANSI certified for contaminant reduction, so you can have peace of mind knowing they are pretty safe for the whole family. We offer different types of drinking water filters including the ones that go over the counter, under the counters and bottles with filters inside for water on the go!
